DayZ is a game about time: hours of looting, days of base building, and the permanent loss of all of it in one bad encounter. Cheating targets exactly that asymmetry — stash and base detection turns a week of someone work into a ten-minute raid, and loot ESP collapses the looting phase entirely.
Enforcement is split. BattlEye handles the client side, but most DayZ servers are community-run, with their own admins, logs and plugin anti-cheats. A build that passes BattlEye can still get you banned in minutes by an admin reading a log, and community bans are per-server rather than global.

Information features and why stashes matter
Survivor and zombie ESP, loot markers, vehicle positions and stash detection are the core. Stash detection is the one that changes the social contract of the game: buried crates are invisible by design, and finding them without digging is not something that happens by accident.
Web radars put the same information on a second screen, which keeps the game display clean and means a screenshot shows nothing unusual.
Community servers set the rules
Official servers lean on BattlEye. Community servers add plugin anti-cheats, admin tooling and detailed logs — position histories, loot pickups, build events. On a well-run community server, admins catch behaviour long before any signature matches.
Server hopping to farm loot is itself logged on most modern setups, so the old approach of hopping for military spawns is detectable without any cheat involved.

DayZ cheats — common questions
Does a DayZ ban apply everywhere?
BattlEye global bans do. Community server bans are per-server, set by that server admins, and are far more common.
Why is stash ESP the most reported feature?
Buried stashes are invisible without digging. Walking to one in open terrain is impossible to explain, and it costs the victim days of progress.
Do admins really read logs?
On serious community servers, yes — position history, loot events and build logs are all recorded, which is a stronger review tool than client signatures.
Is server hopping detectable?
Most modern server setups log it, and many restrict it outright. It is a rule violation on plenty of servers independent of any cheat.
